Meet the Team: Simon Drew
Second up in our series of short videos meeting members of the Sentry Advice family, Simon Drew.
Simon is a mortgage and protection adviser working from our Eastbourne branch.
What led you to become a mortgage and protection adviser?
I started my career as an estate agent, moving on to an IFA practice arranging mortgages initially. As my career developed and took more qualifications began to specialise in investment and pension advice. My passion has always centered around property and as things in life tend to go full circle I have moved back into the mortgage arena.
What are the best parts of your job?
Dealing with and meeting people. I love getting to know new clients and I get a lot of satisfaction from arranging mortgages which will enable people to buy their dream home.
What is the most annoying part of your job?
Lenders try to pigeon hole people with a one size fits all approach to lending which is never the case. It was always much easier when I started my career to have a conversation with a local manager who would invariably sort out any issues.
What’s your favourite thing about working with Sentry Advice?
Working with the guys at Eastbourne, we have so much fun, bounce ideas off each other and have such a positive attitude to life and work.
Where did you grow up?
The rural area of Worcestershire, we lived in school house in a small village Clifton upon Theme were my dad was the headmaster. It was a great place to be brought up, spending most of my time on a farm.
Which superhero do you relate most to?
Mr Incredible as the kids thought I looked like him.
What was the proudest moment of your life?
The day I married Sammi, she’s been such a great support over the years and without her support and guidance I wouldn’t be were I am now. Sammi is like my own personal life coach!
Can you play any instruments?
My Dad was a singer and music teacher, so we were brought up surrounded by music. I can play the trumpet and all brass instruments. I’ve been known to play a tune on the piano now and then as well!
What was your childhood nickname?
Milky Bar Kid, I think it was the blond hair and glasses I used to wear!
